When Reynolds Construction was established in 1994, the company focused on agency construction management, particularly for public projects in K-12 education. The leadership was committed to helping Pennsylvania school districts realize their construction goals while keeping future growth and education objectives at the forefront of new construction, addition and renovation projects.
The first agency construction management project for the firm was for Cornwall-Lebanon School District in Lebanon County, just 35 miles from the Reynolds office in Harrisburg. The District was planning an addition to Union Canal Elementary School to help accommodate the growing student enrollment.
“We were excited to have our first agency construction management client,” says Jeffrey Merritt, President of Reynolds Construction. “At the time, I was a sales engineer for the firm, and worked closely with the administration to help the addition project come to fruition. Looking back, this was a flagship project for the firm, and set Reynolds on a path to become long-term partners with the District.”
As Cornwall-Lebanon School District grew over the years, so did the relationship with Reynolds. After the renovation project at Union Canal Elementary, the District focused on a new elementary school that would have higher capacities for students and incorporate new technologies. The new Ebenezer Elementary School opened in the 1996-1997 school year, and Reynolds served as the construction manager on the project.
“The successes at Union Canal and Ebenezer Elementary Schools in the mid-1990s helped solidify our relationship with the District. What started out as an inaugural project for the company has turned into a two-decade partnership with the Administration. We value the trust the District has placed in us and are proud they continue to choose us for their construction needs,” says Merritt.
Since 1994, Reynolds has managed the additions and renovations for Cedar Crest Middle School, Cedar Crest High School, Ebenezer Elementary School, Cornwall Elementary School, and South Lebanon Elementary School. In addition, Reynolds has worked with the District on a new district-wide storage facility and new parking lots. The total construction cost of the projects was $65 million and encompassed 281,667 square feet of new construction and 529,315 square feet of renovations.
Currently, Reynolds is the construction manager for another addition and renovation project at Union Canal Elementary School. This project encompasses an additional 10,590 sq. ft. of large group instruction space and renovations to nearly 84,000 sq. ft. of existing space. Renovations include a new roof, a new HVAC system, electrical upgrades including all new LED lighting, new finishes, a new bus canopy, a new parking lot, and storm water management to handle water filtration issues. The project is nearing completion, with renovations scheduled to be finished prior to the start of the 2019-2020 school year.
“It’s quite an accomplishment that our first agency construction management client from 1994 is still with us in our 25th Anniversary year,” says Merritt. “The lasting relationship is a testament to our entire staff and to our commitment to public education in Pennsylvania.”
