Meet Jimmie Ponzo, the on-site construction manager at the Union Canal Elementary School renovation project who never misses a chance to interact with students.
Describe what you do at Reynolds.
I’m currently working as an on-site construction manager at the Union Canal Elementary School renovation project. Some of my daily duties consist of documentation, conducting meetings, safety checks, quality assurance, and cost control.
How long have you worked in the construction industry?
I’ve been in the industry for 19 years. I graduated in 2000 with an associate degree in carpentry from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.
What is an accomplishment at Reynolds you’re most proud of and why?
I would have to say the Mechanicsburg Harley Davidson dealership renovation project. They were a great client to work for and I enjoyed seeing how much the employees loved the new layout and finishes.
How do you get involved with the schools you work in?
I ALWAYS make myself available for school functions, such as morning announcements and school skits, as well as greeting students at the bus loop at least once a week. I also make time for project tours and educating high school students who are interested in construction.
Who or what has been the biggest influencer on your career?
Motivational speaker Inky Johnson, who I follow and listen to daily. Within his words I always find strength to push myself and have courage to further my career.
What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I have built over 20 backyard decks for side work.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional basketball player. I wanted to “be like Mike” (Michael Jordan).
What are some side projects or hobbies you have outside of the office?
I’m a dedicated runner who has competed in over 100 races (5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons). I recently tore my Achilles tendon while training, but I plan to compete again after full recovery.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Key West, Florida
